Brenton Systermans is an expedition doctor and guide who loves nothing more than getting his clients up and down a mountain safely and with all their digits intact!

As a doc, Brent has volunteered at the Himalayan Rescue Association’s famous high altitude clinic, Everest ER as well as their Pheriche clinic. He’s had stints with the Australian Army and the Australian Antarctic Division as an ExMO (expedition medical officer). He’s also involved in training the next generation of expedition docs, working as a Lecturer in Healthcare in Remote and Extreme Environments at the University of Tasmania.

Having grown up in regional Victoria, he spent his youth trekking, climbing and skiing in the Victorian High Country and Grampians National Park. Prior to commencing medical school he worked as an Outdoor Instructor and at Falls Creek ski resort.

Graduating from medical school in 2009, he initially trained in Paediatric Surgery before a serious cycling accident led him to re-evaluate his career choice and to re-prioritize his life. This led to a return to working primarily in the outdoors. Since then Brent’s worked as an expedition doctor as well as guide in Australia, Europe, Tanzania, Nepal and China.

Brent loves exploring our fantastic planet and sharing his knowledge of mountain medicine.
