John was born and raised in Boulder, Colorado, where he grew up hiking and climbing across the Front Range. These early experiences quickly developed a love for the mountains and a passion for guiding. With nearly 100 weeks in the field working in outdoor education, climbing, mountaineering, and ski guiding, John brings a wealth of knowledge to each team he works with.

Now living in Lander, Wyoming, John spends his free time climbing in Sinks Canyon and exploring the Wind River Range for new routes where he has numerous first ascents on both rock and ice. Other notable ascents include the Grand Traverse in the Grand Tetons, Mount Rainier, Mount Baker, and the Northeast Face of Pingora Peak in Wyoming.
