Jimmy Collins

  • Alpine and ski mountaineering across Australia, New Zealand, Europe, the USA, and the Himalayas
  • Search and Rescue volunteer, Australia
  • Full-time guide in Australia’s Snowy Mountains

Hailing from Australia, Jimmy began climbing nearly two decades ago. What started as a personal passion gradually evolved into a life in the mountains.

After initially hesitating to turn that passion into a profession, Jimmy is now in his fifth year of full-time guiding and hasn’t looked back. He brings a calm, thoughtful presence to complex terrain, with a guiding style grounded in clarity, patience, and sound judgment.

Before becoming a guide, Jimmy completed a Bachelor of Commerce with a major in Management and built extensive experience working within and leading teams across a variety of environments. Those foundations continue to shape his approach in the mountains, where communication, teamwork, and adaptability are essential.

Jimmy’s climbing background includes alpine climbing and ski mountaineering across Australia, New Zealand, Europe, the United States, and the Himalayas. He works year-round as a guide and instructor and coordinates the Winter Program at the Australian School of Mountaineering, CTSS’s exclusive partner for all of our programs in the Snowy Mountains and on Kosciuszko. In addition to his work guiding, Jimmy also contributes to search-and-rescue operations in Australia and guides internationally.

At the core of Jimmy’s guiding is strong decision-making, efficient systems, and helping climbers develop the skills and judgment needed for safe, confident, and successful expeditions.
