Raised up and down the East Coast, Ty never stayed in one place for long, and that restless energy sparked a lifelong fire for adventure. After a chance climb of Mt. Fuji in Japan, he traded a Division I collegiate running career for the mountains and never looked back. Since then, Ty has built a reputation as a versatile, seasoned guide with over 80 successful ascents of Mt. Baker and an impressive international resume spanning Mexico’s volcanoes, Ecuador’s high peaks, and Alaska’s wild Wrangells.

A true jack-of-all-trades, Ty has guided alpine climbs, ski tours, rafting expeditions, and glacier courses, and has taught backcountry skiing, ice climbing, and outdoor leadership to students from beginners to experts. As a former Guide Supervisor, he’s also managed large teams, trained new guides, and refined trip programs to deliver unforgettable client experiences. Beyond the technical side, Ty holds Pro 1 Avalanche certification, is a Wilderness EMT, and is an AIARE Instructor, underscoring his deep commitment to safety.

Known for his booming laugh, big smile, and gift for teaching, Ty pairs his academic background in history with his love of the outdoors, helping clients discover not only the mountains but also new perspectives on themselves. Whether leading climbers up Mt. Baker, teaching avalanche awareness, or guiding expeditions abroad, Ty’s passion for exploration and people shines through in everything he does.

Reviews from CTSS Aconcagua Climbers:

“Ty was awesome! He set a steady, reasonable pace that kept everyone moving efficiently without feeling rushed or exhausted. He was consistently available and attentive to clients, making sure questions were answered and needs were met.

He created a supportive, team-focused environment where everyone felt included and encouraged. His intelligence and sense of humor kept morale high, even during challenging moments.

Most importantly, I felt safe the entire time — his judgment, professionalism, and calm presence inspired complete confidence.”

“Over more than 20 years of mountaineering, I’ve had many guides (from half-day outings to multi-day expeditions). I have never experienced such extraordinary leadership as with Ty.”
