Life at Everest Base Camp: Waiting, Winning, and a Little Bit of Prom
In mountaineering, waiting is always part of the game, and this is no different on Everest. Our teams at Base Camp have been holding tight with growing anticipation for their first rotations through the Khumbu Icefall, and while they bide their time, fun is exactly what’s on tap. When we talk about mindset and being ready for delays, this is exactly why. It’s going to happen, and the teams and climbers who handle the wait well will be ready to climb when the moment hits.
So while the mountain asks for patience, Base Camp has been delivering on everything else.
Visit from Friends and Supporters
CTSS Founder and Expedition Leader Mike Hamill welcomed Miao Zhong and Ms. Zhu, one of the original founders of Kailas, to Everest Base Camp this week. Kailas brought their team to the mountain to be part of the climbing community firsthand and to hear directly from the people using their products in the most extreme environments on earth. Mike had the chance to learn more about the brand’s origins, its vision for the future, and its commitment to supporting non-profits, climbing initiatives, and the broader climbing community. They are working to build a new generation of outdoor enthusiasts and climbers, and their passion for that mission shone through. We are proud to partner with them.

The First Official Everest Base Camp Prom
Because why not? CTSS climber Nicole S. took it upon herself to organize what we are now calling the first official Everest Base Camp Prom, and she has helpfully documented the process for anyone who wants to recreate it in the future.
- Step 1: Find decorations
- Step 2: Make boutonnieres
- Step 3: Make King and Queen crowns
- Step 4: Make signs
- Step 5: Hire a DJ
- Step 6: Make bow ties and ties
- Step 7: Enjoy prom
- Step 8: Crown the Prom King and Queen
Nicole, we salute you. This is exactly the energy Base Camp needs.
Ping Pong Tournament
The Nepali climbing staff took over the ping pong table this week with a full tournament, organized by Sirdar “Little” Tendi Sherpa and the Nepali guides team. The competition was serious. The atmosphere was not. Thank you to Dorchi Sherpa for capturing the moment.
