Vinson Massif: Choosing Who You Trust in Antarctica

Vinson Massif sits deep in the Ellsworth Mountains, reachable only through a narrow seasonal window, staged travel through South America, and a ski-plane landing at base camp. Once teams are in the field, weather delays are routine, communication is limited, and cold and wind shape every decision. It’s an environment that leaves little room for improvisation, which is why leadership and logistics matter as much as fitness on this mountain. CTSS has built its Vinson program around those realities and carries a 97% expedition success rate as a result.

Expeditions are anchored by Tomi Ceppi, one of the most experienced Vinson guides working today. Tomi has 14 expeditions and 12 summits on Vinson, multiple 8,000-meter ascents including Everest, and climbed Lhotse without supplemental oxygen. He’s supported by a seasoned CTSS team with experience across Antarctica, the Andes, the Himalaya, and Alaska. If you’re considering Vinson, watch the webinar replay with Mike Hamill and Tomi for the full program breakdown, or visit the Vinson program page to learn more about dates and what to expect.
